This is the central paradox of Stoic ethics: human beings cannot control fate, yet they can act with full force and virtue while acknowledging it. This is not passive acceptance, but vigorous, deliberate virtue. Amor Fati is only authentically Stoic when accompanied by this active virtue — the love of fate combined with full moral effort.
