Vindico te tibi (literally: 'I claim you back for yourself') is Seneca's concise formulation of the Stoic task of regaining control over one's own voice, judgements, and inner orientation. It means freeing oneself from external manipulation, cowardice, and conformist speech, and restoring the natural sovereignty of the hegemonikon over itself. It is an act of prohairesis (deliberate choice) against the temptation to betray oneself.
