Prosangesis

Prosangesis

The active inner act by which the mind accepts and admits an impression or circumstance willingly, without inner resistance.

In Stoic thought, prosangesis denotes the process of consciously accepting given circumstances and events. Unlike passive endurance, it is a rational, voluntary act in which the mind consents to an impression (phantasia) or situation and accepts it as the starting point for action. Prosangesis is the counterpart to synkatathesis and refers specifically to the willingness to embrace the inevitable without inwardly resisting or refusing it.
