Pronoia

Pronoia

Divine providence and cosmic order, holding that the universe is permeated by rational structure and that nothing is subject to mere chance.

Pronoia (Greek: πρόνοια) refers in Stoic philosophy to the divine foreknowledge and care that pervades the entire universe. It is not a personal belief in a god who answers individual prayers, but the philosophical conviction that the whole is coherently and meaningfully structured — even when the individual cannot immediately perceive that meaning. Pronoia does not mean optimism or that everything will turn out well, but rather that pain and loss are embedded within a rational order to which a person can align themselves through inner assent.
