Promētheia is the active intellectual practice of rationally thinking ahead about future possibilities and preparing for them through conscious forethought — without falling into fear or worry. It differs fundamentally from Metus (fear): the fearful person passively asks, "What will happen to me?", whereas the person exercising foresight actively asks, "What could happen, and how do I then respond wisely?" Promētheia is thus the application of the dichotomy of control to the future, by deploying one's Prohairesis (moral will / faculty of choice) in a preventive capacity.
