Praxis

Praxis

The concrete execution of a rationally determined action in accordance with Stoic principles.

Praxis (from Greek prattein, to act) denotes in Stoic philosophy not mere activity, but the conscious, reason-guided execution of an action that is in harmony with nature and virtue. It is the practical embodiment of theoretical knowledge (theoria) and is distinguished from accidental or unreflective doing. Praxis requires the training of the hegemonikon and the application of judgements to concrete situations.
