Oikeiōsis

Natural appropriation — the process by which a person first recognizes themselves, then those closest to them, and finally all of humanity as belonging to their own sphere of concern.

From the infant who recognizes its own limbs as "its own," to the mature Stoic who regards all of humanity as kin: Oikeiōsis is the expanding circle of empathy as a natural principle of development.
