Honestum

Honestum

The virtuous or honorable as the only true good in Stoic ethics.

Honestum is the Latin term for the morally virtuous (Greek: kalon), regarded in Roman Stoicism as the sole good (bonum). It refers not to external things such as wealth or reputation, but to the inner virtuous disposition and action. Seneca employs this term centrally in his ethics to emphasize that only what is morally noble and virtuous holds genuine value.
