Hairesis is the Greek word element meaning 'grip', 'seizure', or 'act of choice'. It forms the core of prohairesis and describes the active inner movement of the will to seize or repel something. In the Stoic context, it denotes the inner capacity for agency that enables a person to orient themselves consciously.
