The Enchiridion (ἐγχειρίδιον, "little handbook") is Epictetus's concise compendium of Stoic ethics, compiled by his student Arrian. It opens with the fundamental dichotomy (diairesis) between what is in our power and what is not, and serves as a practical tool of prosoche through everyday reflection. The text was less a theoretical treatise than a guide to the art of living.
