Discernment (in the context of living)

Discernment (in the context of living)

The critical ability to recognize, in each moment, which domain (topos) a situation belongs to and which inner technique is required.

Epictetus teaches that philosophical failure arises not from a lack of knowledge, but from confusion between domains. One must learn to quickly discern: Is this a problem of desire, action, or judgment? This discernment is the first step toward the correct inner response.
