De Ira

De Ira

Seneca's three-part work on the nature, causes, and cure of anger (ira).

De Ira is Seneca's philosophical treatise on the passion of anger, comprising three books. It presents the classical Stoic thesis that anger is not an irrational force but a faulty judgement about a perceived wrong. The work addresses the distinction between involuntary bodily reactions and the subsequent acts of rational assent that constitute anger proper.
