De Beneficiis (On Benefits) is Seneca's most comprehensive ethical work, engaging with the philosophy of giving. It examines the inner disposition behind acts of beneficence and draws a sharp distinction between the outward act of giving and the inward attitude that accompanies it. The work is central to Stoic ethics of social action and was regarded throughout the Roman Empire as a standard text of moral philosophy.
