Bonum (Latin: the Good) is the overarching Stoic term for the only true good. The Stoics teach that bonum does not consist in possessions, wealth, health, or fame, but solely in the virtue of the soul (virtus, aretē). This definition differs radically from popular conceptions and forms the foundation of Stoic value theory: all other supposed "goods" are mere adiaphora (indifferents).
