Askesis in the Context of Continuous Training

Askesis in the Context of Continuous Training

The repeated, purposeful practice of thinking, judging, and acting to consolidate virtuous responses.

Askesis is not asceticism in the modern sense, but training work. It is the practical, everyday discipline of the Hegemonikon through Melete (meditative anticipation), Praxis (right action), and repeated Kathexis (conscious adherence to correct judgements). Only through Askesis does intellectual insight (knowing that the Logos orders all things) become the stable Hexis (consolidation of character) that responds automatically in critical moments — though this is a conscious automatisation, not mere habit.
