Anamelete describes the lack of systematic training (melete) and practice. An anamelete mind is like a body without physical exercise: weak, ungainly, and easily wounded. Epictetus emphasizes that mere intellectual insight (such as understanding the dichotomia tou ephésomenos) is worthless without subsequent askesis and kathexis. The student who does not practice daily remains anamelete and will fail when crisis comes.
